DISRUPTION IS ARCHITECTED

ROSSIGNOL CASE STUDY

The success of the Rossignol Bandit series over a decade tells the story of how good these skis were. From people cruising the resort to some of the best free riders in the world ripping Alaskan spines – so many of them had these strapped to their feet.

In the late 90’s Rossignol was known as a race ski company. But freeskiing was blowing up from Chamonix to Valdez. We had to break the long-standing perception that Rossis were just for banging gates. We gathered Rossi pro skiers like Micah Black, Gordy Peifer, and Eric Pehota and delved into what a freeskier wanted. In a word–freedom.

We loaded up the helis and took off for far flung locations to capture what exactly that meant.

The sport is young. The future is big. Like the mountains of Valdez. Like six turns in 3,000 feet. Like Rossignol Bandits. The mountains tell me how to ski bigger, faster. I just have to listen, carefully, over the roar in my ears.

THE RESULTS?

Rossignol picked up 5% marketshare in the first year of the Bandit launch–something hard to do in the entrenched ski industry. Successive product launches like the Bandit XX and XXX created one of the ski industry’s most successful franchises.
